Many people are uncomfortable wearing dentures because they wobble, slip or can sometimes be painful. This is because without teeth in the mouth, the underlying jawbone deteriorates, and the previous denture no longer fits securely or comfortably. Your lips are also required to keep the denture in place, making smiling difficult and eating even more so.

What is an implant-supported dental bridge / hybrid bridge?

For people who wear dentures, an implant-supported denture (often called an All-On-Four, All-On-X or All at Once) is the latest innovation in implant dentistry. It can give you a complete upper or lower (or both) sets of teeth with as few as four dental implants.

This is made possible by placing two quality dental implants at the front of the mouth and two implants angled at the rear. This enables a bridge or denture to be supported by the dental implants placed in your mouth where the jawbone is denser and stronger.

One of the advantages of an implant-supported bridge/denture is that you can have a complete set of fixed and natural-looking replacement teeth in as little as three appointments.

If you have been missing several teeth for an extended period, you may have lost some of your natural bone density. In the past, these patients would often be required to have bone graft surgery before they received their implants to restore the lost bone. This process usually takes up to six months for the area to heal before dental implants are placed.

Alternatively, Dr Chris Wooldridge offers the All at Once option where everything is done ‘All at Once’; any remaining teeth are removed, implants are placed and the final teeth are inserted all under the same single general anaesthetic procedure.
